TAG Heuer Porsche’s Pascal Wehrlein sealed the first victory of the 2024 campaign in the opening round of Season 10 in Mexico City, leading Envision Racing’s Sebastian Buemi and Jaguar TCS Racing debutant Nick Cassidy.

Wehrlein seems to race comfortably in Mexico, with all four of his Formula E Julius Baer Pole Positions being awarded in the country, with te same being said for the Porsche powertrains – having driven the winner at each of the last three Mexico City E-Prix’s.

The German/Mauritian driver completed what some would deem the perfect race weekend, converting his pole position into a victory that he controlled from lights out to the chequered flag, only briefly conceeding the lead when taking the ATTACK MODE and under a Full Course Yellow/Safety Car. Retaking the lead on the first lap following the Safety Car period due to Buemi taking ATTACK MODE (as every driver is obligated to do during the race) – he managed the race from there with Buemi not being to make any more gains on the leader than a couple of seconds.

Envision Racing’s Sebastian followed the Porsche home to take second in the teams first outing of the season as Reigning Teams’ World Champion, with The Jaguar TCS Racing I-TYPE 6 debutante Nick Cassidy wrapping up the podium – after an overtake on Maximilian Guenther (Maserati MSG Racing) mid-way through the race, the German finishing fourth at the chequered flag.

Mitch Evans (Jaguar TCS Racing) who took the title fight to the last races in London in the 2022/23 season was forced into a defensive drive to hold a charging Jean-Eric Vergne (DS PENSKE) back – the Frenchman having charged through the order from 10th on the grid to become only the second driver after Lucas di Grassi (ABT CUPRA) to surpass 1,000 points in Formula E in the process.

Jake Hughes (NEOM McLaren) followed Vergne home in seventh, with Season 8 champion Stoffel Vandoorne eighth at the conclusion. Reigning Drivers’ Champion Jake Dennis in the Andretti made up ground to an eventual ninth and points from 14th at the start. Dennis’ new teammate Norman Nato rounded out the top 10.

Memorable Moments to Mention:

At the start of Lap 3, contact between the TAG Heuer Porsche of Antonio Felix da Costa and the ABT CUPRA of Nico Muller saw retirements with broken suspension for the former and the latter in the wall.

Robin Frijns – looking for redemption after a slow start – made heavy contact with the wall on Lap 9 after overcooking it on the exit of the Foro Sol, having just overtaken Edoardo Mortara’s Mahindra.
