Da Costa Claims First Victory With Jaguar In Jeddah

Qualifying

Edoardo Mortara achieved his fifth career Julius Baer Pole Position, and his second consecutive first place start around the Jeddah Corniche Circuit with Mahindra Racing on Saturday.

Group A:

Mortara continued his strong form, topping the first group by the chequered flag. Maximilian Guenther was the second driver through to the Duel stages, with Oliver Rowland also improving on his performance from the previous day to proceed through to the next stage. Jean-Eric Vergne took the final spot in Group A in fourth.

Despite his initial pace looking strong, Dan Ticktum just missed out on the Quarter Finals in fifth place by 0.020s. Other big names also knocked out in the first group included Round 4’s winner Pascal Wehrlein (Porsche) and podium finisher Mitch Evans (Jaguar TCS Racing).

Group B:

Antonio Felix da Costa topped the timings for Group B to secure his place in the Quarter Finals, ahead of Jake Dennis of Andretti. Joining them both in the Duels were Envision’s Sebastien Buemi in third and Citroen’s Nick Cassidy in the final spot.

Zane Maloney had his strongest qualifying of the season so far to take fifth place, with Porsche’s Nico Muller down in eighth. Mortara’s teammate Nyck de Vries ended the session in ninth, however, he is set to serve several penalties for the changing of multiple car parts overnight.

Quarter Finals:

Maximilian Guenther (DS PENSKE) was up first alongside reigning World Champion Oliver Rowland. Whilst Guenther has managed to reach the Duels at all four Jeddah ePrix that have been held so far, he didn’t proceed any further in this case, as it was Rowland who won his first Duel of the season.

The second Quarter Final duel was between two-time champion Jean-Eric Vergne and Edoardo Mortara, with the latter continuing his rapid pace around the Jeddah Corniche Circuit to claim his place in the Semi Finals. Mortara has the best record in Quarter Final Duels this season, including beating Vergne in Sao Paulo.

Duel 3 saw Jake Dennis clock a faster lap than Sebastien Buemi, with neither the Envision nor Andretti teams ever experiencing the duels in Jeddah before.

The final head-to-head in this stage was between the Citroen Racing of Nick Cassidy and the Jaguar TCS Racing car of Antonio Felix da Costa, with the Season 6 champion setting the top time and knocking Cassidy out of Qualifying. Da Costa has managed to reach the Duels four times in five attempts with Jaguar.

Semi Finals:

Mortara’s streak of good performance continued with Mahindra, with the car looking comfortable around the Jeddah Corniche Circuit. With the Swiss driver being the best qualifier on average this season, he continued to secure a place in the Final with Oliver Rowland set to start on the second row of the grid.

Da Costa took on Jake Dennis in the second Semi Final, with Porsche and Jaguar powertrains having taken nine of the last 10 pole positions. Dennis has yet to lose a Semi Final duel since the opening race of last season, with the Briton continuing that record after beating Da Costa to guarantee himself a front row start for the race later on in the day.

Finals:

Mortara sped his way to his second consecutive pole position in Jeddah, after battling Season 9 World Champion Jake Dennis.

Having only previously secured poles in Berlin until this weekend, the back-to-back polesitter looked to try to improve on his performance in the previous round, with some serious wheelspin off the line seeing him drop down the grid into the first corner.

Race

Antonio Felix da Costa and Jaguar TCS Racing nailed their race strategy to take the race win in the 2026 Jeddah E-Prix Round 5, leading home Sebastien Buemi and reigning champion Oliver Rowland.

As the lights went out, Mortara led the pack over the line, with Dennis and da Costa running side-by-side through the first sector – the former managing to hold on to P2. At Turn 13, Dennis forced Mortara to take the defensive line, allowing Rowland to sneak up on the inside of the Mahindra in the process, ultimately taking the lead of the race.

Buemi moved into the lead on Lap 4, leaping from fourth around the outside of Rowland at the hairpin – the top six constantly shuffling around as they tried to look after their energy. On Lap 5, Buemi lost the lead back to Rowland, with da Costa also making a move on the Envision.

By Lap 8, Rowland had slowed the pack down by 5 seconds a lap compared to when Buemi was at front earlier on – the latter swapping places with Rowland briefly, before the Nissan driver took P1 back at the Hairpin corner a later lap later. Da Costa then moved into the lead on Lap 10.

Lap 11 saw di Grassi become the first driver to take the first of two mandatory 50kW, all-wheel drive ATTACK MODE boosts, with Mortara consequently moving into the lead. Rowland jumped for ATTACK on Lap 16, with lead constantly changing hands. Buemi now lead from Mortara, with da Costa and di Grassi following close behind. The reigning World Champion utilised his boost efficiently to move through the top six and regain P1 with 12 laps to go.

Da Costa jumped for ATTACK MODE a lap later, making quick work of passing Buemi for P2 and setting his sights on Rowland further down the road. He made quick work of passing the Nissan on the run down to the Hairpin on Lap 20 with a minute of ATTACK reamining. Ticktum then made it past Rowland, with the CUPRA KIRO driver utilising his share of ATTACK, although he was still 2.5 seconds behind da Costa – who had made a break from the chaos behind.

Rowland was the first to take his second ATTACK MODE in the tail end of the race. Buemi and Mortara followed, dropping to fourth and fifth behind the Nissan driver, who was still chasing Ticktum and da Costa – the Portuguese managing to take his second ATTACK whilst retaining the lead.

With four laps to go, da Costa led from Ticktum, Buemi, Mortara, Marti, Rowland, Wehrlein, Evans, Vergne and di Grassi.

Rowland managed to make use of an ATTACK MODE overlap to take second from Ticktum, with Buemi also passing the CUPRA KIRO driver before claiming P2 from the Nissan driver on that same lap.

By the time the chequered flag fell on Round 5, da Costa was some 3.5 seconds in front to take the victory, ahead of Buemi in P2 and Rowland in P3, whilst Mortara, Ticktum, and Marti rounded out the top six.
